This week we combined cultures - in honor of the Jewish tradition of ordering Chinese food on Christmas, we had Jake & Peach pick up Chinese food. And, in honor of Christmas, we made gingerbread houses 🏡
Chinese Food
From DJ’s in Larkspur. Very good - chicken, fried rice, and dumplings were all excellent.
Construction Gingerbread
I used this King Arthur recipe - but I will not next year. It yielded a puffy structure, and while charming, I think flatter will yield sharper shapes.
Royal Icing
This was a big miss on my part - way too runny, was ultimately not suited for the task of construction. I used the recipe from the gingerbread, and I think next year I will go with egg white > meringue powder and triple check consistency before packaging up in piping bags.
